Ebook About
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERBestselling writer Daniel Abraham and acclaimed illustrator Tommy Patterson bring their stunning graphic-novel adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s classic A Game of Thrones to a stunning finish that merits a place alongside the majestic original on the bookshelf of every fantasy fan.   The death of King Robert Baratheon and the imprisonment of his Hand, Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell, has set the great houses of Westeros at one another’s throats.   In Winterfell, Eddard’s eldest son and heir, Robb Stark, has gathered an army and is pushing south, determined to free his father. Along the way, he pledges to marry the daughter of Lord Walder Frey in exchange for a military advantage that allows him to capture Jaime Lannister—a powerful bargaining chip to ensure Lord Eddard’s safe release. But it is one thing to capture the Kingslayer and quite another to hold him.   Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, young King Joffrey has other ideas than an exchange of prisoners. Ignoring the advice of his mother, Queen Cersei, he throws oil on the flames of conflict and ignites a conflagration that seems likely to consume not only the Starks but all of Westeros—unless Tyrion Lannister, the Imp, can bring the mad boy-king to heel.   Beyond the Wall, greater dangers are brewing, as a winter as brutal as any in history approaches, bringing with it unnatural creatures out of legend. There, Eddard’s bastard, Jon Snow, must decide once and for all where his loyalties lie.   And across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen will learn the true measure of grief—and emerge from its fiery depths transformed, hardened, and ready to claim what is hers by right: the Iron Throne.

Book A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume Four Review :

Good graphics, good storyline. Unfortunately this is the last graphic novel (as of 9/28/2017). The authors really need to continue the series. Spoiler alert... don't read any more if you haven't watched the video. This novel ends with Dany coming out of the fire used to cremate Drogo and we see her three dragons for the first time. So there is a lot lot more after this novel, Volume 4, ends.
This is the fourth of a series of four graphic novels that adapts George R. R. Martin's novel of the same name. The first season of the HBO series was adapted from the same novel, but seasons 2 through 5 are adaptations of later novels in the series. (A Game of Thrones is the title of the first novel in the series only.) So, If you're looking to compare this volume to the TV series, it corresponds to the last 2 or 3 episodes of season 1. And if you want to continue this adaptation into season 2, look for the adaptation of Martin's novel A Clash of Kings. The illustrations are beautiful and the book does a good job of telling George Martin's original story. And, although I have both seen the TV series and read the original novel (and love both), this book manages to be engaging and unique in its own right. This is a new adaptation of the novel and it stays closer to the source material than the HBO series. Character designs are closer to their descriptions in the book and dialog is lifted directly from the novel more often. One minor glitch with the art: although the pencils for this volume continue to be done by Tommy Patterson, Ivan Nunes shares the colorist duties for this volume with a second colorist. Their inking styles are sometimes noticeably different from page to page, which can be a bit jarring. You do get more detail (or at least DIFFERENT details) in this adaptation of Martin's extremely complex novels than you do in the TV series. So, it does complement the show nicely. There are more such differences in this volume than there were in the previous three. For example, in the TV show, Tyrion was quickly knocked unconscious in the battle that follows his return to the Lannister camp. In the original novel (and in this graphic version), Tyrion fights. So, you actually see the battle.Having said that, this volume is still pretty close to being a version the TV series in comic book form. Season 1 of the series was itself relatively faithful to the book. So, the graphic novel is not all that different. I'm hoping the creators of the graphic novels make it all the way to adapting Martin's fourth novel, where the TV series began to depart significantly from the books it's based on. It would be nice to see Martin's original ideas in graphic form.Additionally, each volume of the graphic novel has some very nice material at the end concerning the making of this particular adaptation. In this volume Tommy Patterson talks about his approach to drawing some of the most popular characters. It's a very interesting look inside the mind of the artist. Finally, like the TV series, this is definitely NOT for children. The levels of sexuality and violence depicted here are comparable to the HBO series. If you wouldn't want your kids watching the TV show, you wouldn't want them reading this.
